History

The firm’s name comes from the nickname of our great-granddad Mihovil Popić. At the beginning of the 20th century, in the valley of the Neretva, he had 8,000 vines, made wine, and sold it. Our father, Vlado, helped him. The blood of vine growers and winemakers flows in our veins. The Rizman Winery started off production again in 2006, have skipped a whole generation, with new technology, a new position and ecological viticulture. The name Rizman, then, is a blend of the new and tradition. We set a lot of store by family, and the first building put up (on the highest peak, 253 metres a.s.l.) is the chapel of St Michael, for there have been Mihovils, which is the same as Michael, in the Štimaces for five generations. The chapel was finished on September 29, 2009, that is the day of the saint, when the last fruits of the vine are picked, the processes start in the winery and wine is made from the fruit. Then it is a real celebration here.

Wine region

Not far from the wine region is our seaside house, and my brother Mihovil and I had the idea of trying to plant a vineyard here. We are so glad that 9 years later we have the youngest wine region in Croatia, the only 100% ecological wine slopes (all the 7 producers of this wine hill are registered ecological producers)
